We are looking for a Director of Software Engineering to join our dynamic and growing Engineering team.
About the Role
Tango is seeking an experienced Director of Software Engineering to help shape the future of our technology organization. In this role, you will set long-term technical direction, elevate engineering practices, and collaborate with multiple teams as they deliver reliable, scalable SaaS products. You’ll foster a people-first culture, strengthen cross-functional collaboration, and ensure our technology investments support both current needs and future growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the technical vision, strategy, and roadmap for Tango’s engineering organization in alignment with business goals.
- Lead and mentor multiple software engineering teams (Edge, Locatee, Reserve) ensuring alignment with product roadmaps and operational excellence.
- Champion a people-first, psychologically safe culture fostering inclusion, trust, and innovation across distributed remote teams.
- Architect and oversee the development of scalable, secure, and high-performing SaaS solutions leveraging Tango’s modern technology stack.
- Establish engineering best practices, processes, and tools across the full SDLC including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and deployment pipelines.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Customer Success to balance technical debt with feature delivery and business outcomes.
- Recruit, develop, and retain world-class engineering talent while fostering DEI and continuous learning.
- Represent the engineering organization in executive strategy discussions and contribute to enterprise-wide technology decisions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and guide adoption of AI/ML, automation, and modern frameworks in alignment with Tango’s Technology Radar.
- Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance by enforcing strong architectural principles and operational discipline.
About You:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in leadership at Director or higher level.
- Proven record of building distributed, remote-first teams delivering large-scale SaaS applications.
- Deep experience in AWS cloud-native and serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, Amplify, RDS, SNS).
- Strong background in microservices, REST/GraphQL APIs, and modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular, or equivalent).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and observability systems (Datadog, CloudWatch, Prometheus).
- Skilled in data-driven leadership, fostering innovation through metrics, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to align technical execution with business strategy.
- Experience with Agile/Lean delivery practices and measurable outcome-driven performance management.
- .NET Core experience preferred but not required.
